If you know me, you know I love to eat. I’m your typical foodie – I like trying new places whether it be $ or $$$$ on Yelp. Although I like to save those $$$$ restaurants for special occasions because after all, it’s just food, it all goes to one place, right? Or at least that’s what I read somewhere. But some days we all want to treat ourselves a little bit and let our inner bougie ass out! Restaurant Gary Danko has been on my list of high-end restaurants since the very beginning. GD was probably the first upscale restaurant that I’ve ever heard of, starting in high school when I would hear about people taking their significant others there. Now, almost a year after graduating college I have finally taken my own significant other! Honestly coming here was more for me since I chose it and it’s on my list but I think he enjoyed it nonetheless…

Seared Foie Gras with Caramelized Onions and Vanilla Poached Rhubarb

The great thing about Gary Danko is that your courses are entirely customizable. You can pick from 3, 4, or 5 course meals and choose anything from the menu. You could get all appetizers or all desserts, or if you really want – three courses of lobster (Featured). I chose the 4-course dinner and started off with my most guilty pleasure – seared foie gras (Above). It was small, but so decadent and delicious! The seared foie gras paired perfectly with the caramelized onions and it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect.

Lemon Pepper Duck Breast with Duck Hash, Bacon Braised Endive and Huckleberry Bordelaise

My second favorite course of the night – also the most filling, was this lemon pepper duck breast. What’s really amazing about these dishes is that not only is the meat cooked perfectly, but everything goes together really well. You really have to get a little bit of everything on your plate and eat it all in one bite for the best experience.

Next up we have the seared filet of beef. Your typical beef dish, nothing super unique about this course, but the beef was seared just right at medium rare, left the corners crispy and the center pink and tender. To be honest I was going to order the stuffed roasted quail, but our waiter said that the beef filet was one of the most popular options so I opted for this instead. (Below)

My fourth course was the roasted lobster and it was delicious as well, but to be honest I’m more of a crab gal. This course wasn’t particularly memorable for me because it just tasted like straight up lobster.

We didn’t order any dessert because I knew were getting complimentary dessert because it was my boyfriend’s birthday, but a trick I’d like to share if you’re eating out with someone with a sweet tooth is if you both plan on eating 4 courses, one of you should get the 5 course and the 5th course can be a shared dessert! Anyway, the birthday dessert was a light lemon cake and a tray of small little goodies!

To be honest, I wouldn’t say that the food really blew me away. Don’t get me wrong, each course was different and delicious in it’s own way, but the real winner at Gary Danko is the service. The minute you walk in, you know you’re in a 5-star establishment solely by the way you’re treated. They let you taste the wine before ordering a full glass, your napkin is folded every time you leave the table, the bathroom doesn’t have paper towels but actual towels, and someone comes around every so often to check up on you, introduce your courses, and hand-refill your bread two pieces at a time.

We dined here for a total of almost 3 hours and loved every minute of the experience. Restaurant Gary Danko is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion with a loved one. Just remember to book reservations at least a month in advance (maybe even more)!
